When Jonah reads Annie's letter addressed to both of them, he instinctively feels that she could 'be the one,' (it mentions the Baltimore Orioles), but he fails to convince his father to go to New York on Valentine's Day to meet Annie. Sam begins dating a co-worker, Victoria, whom Jonah dislikes. She decides not to mail it, but her friend and editor Becky does it for her and later agrees to send Annie to Seattle. After watching the film An Affair to Remember, Annie writes a letter suggesting that Sam meet her on top of the Empire State Building on Valentine's Day. One of the listeners is Annie Reed, a Baltimore Sun reporter who is engaged to Walter, but feels there is something missing from their relationship. Thousands of women from around the country hear the program and are touched by the story and write to Sam. A year later on Christmas Eve, Jonah calls in to a radio talk show and persuades a reluctant Sam to go on the air to talk about how much he misses Maggie. The film is also credited with establishing Ephron as a celebrated romantic comedy filmmaker.Ĭhicago architect Sam Baldwin loses his wife Maggie to cancer, and he and their eight-year-old son Jonah start a new life in Seattle, but they continue to mourn. Several critics and media publications agree that Sleepless in Seattle is one of the greatest romantic comedy films of all-time. The soundtrack was also successful, peaking at number one on the Billboard 200. It was one of the highest-grossing films of 1993, and remains one of the most successful romantic comedies in box office history. Despite competition from several blockbusters released around that same summer, the film was a surprise commercial success, earning $17 million during its opening weekend (the highest opening for a romantic comedy at the time), and ultimately grossing over $227 million worldwide. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards at the 1994 ceremony: Best Original Screenplay and Best Original Song. Sleepless in Seattle was released on June 25, 1993, to positive reviews, receiving praise for Ephron's writing and direction, as well as Hanks and Ryan's performances. Several of its most pivotal scenes were filmed on a former naval base due to the city's lack of sound stages, including a recreation of the Empire State Building's observation deck when the New York skyscraper was not available. The film was shot mostly in Seattle during the summer of 1992. Although both Hanks and Ryan had been favored for the lead roles from the beginning, several other actors expressed interest in both parts, while Hanks often disagreed with Ephron over his character's material. Ward and Ephron were among several writers hired to re-write the script into a funnier film, with Ephron eventually being promoted to director once Nick Castle departed over disagreeing with her comedic approach. Foster strongly believed in the film's potential but struggled to get it made by TriStar Pictures for several years, finding its emotional script promising but unsophisticated. Arch submitted his script to producer Gary Foster in 1990. Several studios rejected his script, deterred by the idea that its main couple does not meet for nearly the entire film. Inspired by the romance film An Affair to Remember (1957), Sleepless in Seattle was conceived as a romantic drama by Arch in 1989. In addition to Bill Pullman, Ross Malinger, and Rob Reiner, the film features an ensemble supporting cast also consisting of Rosie O'Donnell, Gaby Hoffmann, Victor Garber, Rita Wilson, Barbara Garrick, and Carey Lowell. Starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, the film follows a journalist (Ryan) who, despite being newly engaged, becomes enamored with a recently widowed architect (Hanks), when the latter's son calls in to a talk radio program requesting a new partner for his grieving father. Sleepless in Seattle is a 1993 American romantic comedy-drama film directed by Nora Ephron, from a screenplay she wrote with David S. They continued to bleed the clock - until Staley called the controversial timeout with five seconds on the play clock and 38 seconds left in the game.Īl Michaels and Cris Collinsworth couldn't believe that Chargers head coach Brandon Staley called a timeout with 38 seconds left. On third-and-4 at L.A.'s 39-yard line, the Raiders came out in a shotgun formation with Jacobs alongside quarterback Derek Carr. By this point, it seemed like the Raiders were content to simply run out the clock for the tie. The Raiders then waited until the 1:20 mark to snap the ball for second down, a 7-yard rush by Jacobs. Their first play, a handoff to Josh Jacobs, resulted in a loss of 1 yard and the Chargers opted not to stop the clock with one of their two timeouts. Las Vegas picked up two first downs and had a fresh set of downs at the Chargers' 45-yard line entering the two-minute warning.ĭespite not yet being in field goal range, Las Vegas didn't show any real sense of urgency coming out of the two-minute warning. The Raiders were consistently greeted with loud cheers, while the Chargers were roundly booed. Las Vegas Raiders fans took over SoFi Stadium for Monday Night Football. On Monday night, we got yet another reminder how far the franchise still has to go to become viable in the LA marketplace. Since their move to Los Angeles, the Chargers have struggled to build anything close to a sustainable fanbase. Even the RTX 4080s didn’t even reach 30 fps in my test. When I enabled Ray Tracing with Psycho settings on top of the ultra graphics preset, it brought the graphics cards to their knees. Meanwhile, the RTX 3080 Ti sits somewhere in between. The RTX 4080 performed around double the performance compared to the RTX 3080. It’s very GPU demanding that even without ray tracing, it’s pretty difficult to get higher frame rates in 4K without the help of DLSS or by lowering the graphics settings. Okay, I know you are itching to see the result already, so below are the specifications of the RTX 4080, RTX 3080 Ti, and RTX 3080. The 8th gen dual NVENC with AV1 will greatly help streamers and gamer who records their gameplay, as well as broadcasters or video callers. With twice the NVENC encoder, the RTX 40 series GPUs are 40% more efficient than H.264, according to NVIDIA. Although the RTX 40 does support DLSS 2.Īnother feature that the RTX 4080 has is dual AV1 video encoders. The RTX 30 series and RTX 20 series will not support DLSS 3. Meaning only the RTX 40 series GPUs will have this feature. Sorry, No DLSS 3 for RTX 30 and RTX 20 Seriesįinally, DLSS 3 is an exclusive feature of the Ada Lovelace architecture. But so far, I don’t see any competitive titles supporting DLSS 3 yet. NVIDIA does have another technology called Reflex that could help with the latency issue. I could be wrong, but I don’t think AI frame generation is suitable for competitive titles since it could potentially increase latency. Just like when ray tracing and DLSS were first introduced with the RTX 20 series GPUs, not many games came with the feature.Īlso, keen eyes may see some weird artifacts or glitches on the player’s character. Most are single-player titles, and most have not implemented DLSS 3 yet, or the game itself is not released yet. According to NVIDIA, there are over 35 titles that will support DLSS 3. Since the DLSS 3 is still new, only a handful of games currently support it. As I said, it generates frames and inserts them between real frames. While it may look like the graphics card produced more frames, it doesn’t actually increase the number of real frames. With the (significantly) higher frame count, the game feels smoother. That’s right, these new GPUs “generate” frames and insert the generated frame between the real frames, thus effectively increasing the frame rate. However, I think one of the main highlights of these new RTX 40 series GPUs is DLSS 3, or AI frame generation technology. The RTX 4080 is based on the new and better Ada Lovelace architecture, while the RTX 3080 Ti uses Ampere architecture. And yes, it doesn’t mean it will perform slower than the RTX 3080 Ti due to its lower core count. However, when you look at the RTX 3080 Ti’s specs, the RTX 4080 actually has fewer CUDA cores, Tensor Cores, and RT Cores than the RTX 3080 Ti. When we compare the RTX 4080’s specs to the RTX 3080, it looks a bit impressive, considering the core count increase. Finally, it has 16GB of GDDR6X memory, with an effective speed of 22.4Gbps, running on a 256-bit memory interface. It also comes with 304 4th gen Tensor Cores offering 780 Tensor-TFLOPS (with Sparsity) for AI processing and DLSS paired with 76 3rd gen Ada RT Cores capable of 113 RT-TFLOPS for powering next-generation ray-traced graphics. Since some of its SMs are disabled, there’s still room for an “RTX 4080 Ti”.Īccording to NVIDIA, the GeForce RTX 4080 has 9,728 CUDA cores, providing 49 Shader-TFLOPS of power for traditional rasterized graphics. The AD103 is an NVIDIA custom chip based on TSMC’s 4N process. Powering the RTX 4080 is an AD103 GPU with some of its SMs disabled. The new GeForce RTX 4080 is based on NVIDIA’s new Ada Lovelace architecture. GeForce RTX 4080 or RTX 3080/RTX 3080 Ti – Ada Lovelace or Ampere? The best Xbox One games to play right now The Xbox One S also has the ability to play games at 1440p resolution, thanks to an update in April 2018.Ī black Xbox Series S with a 1TB SSD launches in September That makes for a better picture than 1080p or 720p, although it’s not as good as native 4K. While both the Xbox One and Xbox One S play games natively at 1080p, the Xbox One S can upscale games to 4K resolution if you have a 4K TV. The last-gen Xbox One accepts regular Blu-ray discs, but it can’t handle UHD Blu-ray or 4K streaming. At around $300, the Xbox One S is a relative steal when compared to the price tag of some of the dedicated UHD players currently on the market, which makes it a solid purchase for individuals who currently own a 4K TV. The console also features a built-in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. The Xbox One S supports 4K video playback from streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon, and several others. If you are in the market for an Xbox One, however, here’s an in-depth comparison between the Xbox One and Xbox One S. What might be even more enticing to Xbox One S buyers is the Xbox Series S - an affordable, all-digital version of the Series X. Should you opt for the slick One S or grab a vintage Xbox One from a yard sale? Considering that the native 4K-capable, ultra-powerful Xbox One X console launched in 2017, the answer to that question really depends on your pocket depth and your eagerness to adopt the latest and greatest tech.Īnd, with the Xbox Series X and Series S having just released, players who want to join the next generation might want to hold off on purchasing any form of Xbox One. With bundles available for about $300 for the 1TB version and one game, it’s also one of the most affordable consoles on the market today. With multiple bundles sporting a variety of storage capacities and packed-in games, the Xbox One S is a great option for anyone looking to pick up an Xbox system for the first time. And considering how often the $299 Xbox One S drops in price, it likely won't cost you significantly more than the older model. The Xbox One S offers a sleek, compact, and 4K video-capable alternative to the original Xbox One, which has been discontinued. Folks with 4K and HDR-enabled TVs will reap the benefits of ultra-HD Blu-ray support, 4K streaming and HDR gaming, while everyone else will enjoy a streamlined design that'll look great under your TV. Whether you're looking to retire your old Xbox or you want to join the Xbox family for the first time, there's virtually no reason not to buy an Xbox One S over the older Xbox One. The One S almost always includes a free game, with current bundles offering such titles as Minecraft, Gears of War 4 or Battlefield 1. The $299 Xbox One S offers a ton of extra perks for just $50 more, and goes on sale so often that you can pretty easily snag one for $249. However, since the One S is meant to replace the One, Microsoft's older console is becoming increasingly hard to find. If you do some digging, you can even find 1TB models for around the same price. With a retail price of $249, the original 500GB Xbox One is a good pick for those on an extra-tight budget, especially since this system typically comes bundled with a free game. Both consoles can be connected to your cable box (or, via an adapter, to your HD antenna), allowing you to seamlessly switch between games and TV. The original Xbox One still has access to Netflix, Hulu, HBO Now and just about any other streaming app you could want, and plays standard Blu-ray discs. If you're still rocking a 1080p TV, those features won't do much for you. |
